Westgate Shopping Centre, Oxford
Westgate Shopping Centre (locally known as Westgate) is a shopping centre in central Oxford, England. It is located at the west end of Queen Street, where the west gate of the city of Oxford used to be situated. A car park, including a multistory section, is attached to the shopping centre, with access from Oxpens Road. Plans to expand the shopping centre – tripling it in size – are well underway, with construction originally planned to start January 2009. However due to the economic downturn in the UK, particularly in the South East, the project has been postponed indefinitely [1] with the possibility that the project will be scrapped. [2] Queen Street, Oxford Queen Street is a shopping street in central Oxford, England. It is one-way (west to east) for buses and taxis, two-way for cyclists outside main shopping hours, and forbidden for cars. It runs west from the centre of Oxford at Carfax. Here it adjoins Cornmarket Street to the north (also pedestrianized), the High Street continuing east, and St Aldate's to the south. New Theatre Oxford The New Theatre Oxford (known for a period as the Apollo Theatre Oxford or simply The Apollo from 1977-2003) is the main commercial theatre in Oxford, England and has a capacity of 1,800 people. It is located in George Street in the centre of the city, and puts on a wide variety of shows, from musical theatre (Annie, West Side Story, and Chicago) to stand-up comedy (Ross Noble, Jimmy Carr, French and Saunders and Ricky Gervais) to gigs (Status Quo, Elkie Brooks, Rufus Wainwright, Motörhead and Mcfly).
